"How
the Christian Leader considers the Leadership approach?"
During the Halloween
weekend, 3 of us at the Delmas 43 Church of Christ conducted a preachers
retreat for two and half days, October 31st, 1st & 2nd of November in the
Church facility at Delmas 43 where 215 people (Preachers, Elders,
Deacons and their wives, students, graduates, Sunday School teachers,
group leaders and a few denominational preachers were invited) listened to
God's word and received the true teaching inspired by the Holy Spirit for
a new life.
The retreat was only for two and half days as there was a
national holiday and the country is experiencing a period of political
unrest a few days after the legislative and presidential elections. The
theme of the retreat was "How the Christian Leader considers the
Leadership approach?" (1 Peter 5:2).
Jean Robert presented
powerful lessons on ''Discover how to lead with a servant heart - A
call to equip the others - Difference between a Leader and a Boss.
However, two other presenters Brother Gilner Zephyr and Ferdinand Labonte led the attendees in the retreat to repentance, the
denominational guests to conversion and inner healing.
There were twenty eight
spiritual healing at the end, 9 denominational preachers and 6 of their
wives; and 13 other guests have been baptized and living a new spiritual
life with Christ. We give thanks to the Lord for these beautiful souls
added to the Lord's Kingdom. Over 30 of our guests giving their phone
numbers and address willing to be contacted for further biblical
studies...
A preachers retreat in
the common true sense means finding peaceful places where Leaders can
recharge, rest and being encouraged, in this ministry at Delmas 43 it's
totally a different matter; it's definitely a real time of happiness,
of course time of happiness for the rescued and newly saved souls
increasing God's family... It's at the same time a time of very hard labor
where we discuss of all ministerial activities done during the year and
giving counseling and advice of strategies for the year to come.
We've had a few leaders
from Flamand and Grosse Cayes. Flamand is
a spiritually desolate land where the people only live by cutting the
trees and making charcoal; they walk kilometers to get drinking water.
Preachers and their spouses trying to reach their communities there
experience discouragement at a higher level than other pastors in large
cities.
When the Preacher’s Encouragement Retreat
began back in 1996, more than 50% of leaders were leaving these areas each
year discouraged. Among those who attend this free retreat where they all
find food and transportation fare, the turnover rate has dropped to less
than 7%, the average these days. The Preacher's Encouragement Retreat
renews and refreshes these leaders. From the North to the South, from East
to the West, Preachers report that their most effective years came after
an experience at the retreat... to God be all the glory!
We'd like to express our gratitude and
many thanks to the Elders, Deacons and church members at the Northeast
Church of Christ for budgeted funds every year on behalf of this fruitful
annual Preachers Retreat that brings spiritual development and growth to
the Lord's ministry in Haiti, most specially at Delmas 43.
Thanks for all you do, and continue to invest your prayers and financial
support to this work well done! Also continue to pray for those who
worship the Lord in even a bad condition of shelter.
Please, keep up the
good work and stay mission minded!

Dear Brothers:
Greetings in the name of Jesus from the Central Church of Christ in
Sarasota. We continue to be involved in the work of God in Haiti with Jean
Robert. I recently had a wonderful time with the leadership of the Delmas
43 church on a one day retreat to Kaliko Beach Resort. This is the first
time in my 30 years of travels to Haiti that I have been in the company of
about 20 of the primary leaders in this church, some who have worked with
Jean Robert from the beginning. It was a time of prayer, planning, and
training. It was also a time to relax and enjoy each other’s company. It
reminded me again of how far this work has come, and the stability it has
for the future. Jean has done a great job raising up other leaders who can
carry on the work in his absence.
I also had a two day
Preacher’s Retreat that drew 2-300 in attendance,
teaching on the History of the Church. It was well received. I do not know
the final numbers on conversions and potential new churches formed. But,
if it is like all the other Retreats I have done, we can expect 2-3 dozen
baptisms, and 2-3 new churches.
I have also learned that many Haitians are migrating to Brazil and
Chile for work. The appeals are coming in for Jean to travel there to
plant new churches among our members who will be living there. Of course,
this opens up a new harvest field for the gospel. I don’t have to tell you
that this work is vibrant and dynamic, as God is truly at work.
My concerns continue to be for the financial stability of the work, and
for Jean Robert’s personal future. I regret that Central is not healthier
and cannot oversee more of the evangelistic parts of this ministry.
Through Jean Robert, I am also hearing that Northeast might be
experiencing some challenges as well. In view of this, I continue to want
to see how God will work through us to put the future of this ministry on
firmer ground. I am not writing to offer specific solutions, but to let
you know my heart and the heart of the church here is with Haiti, and we
want to continue to partner with you in finding those solutions.
